Carmel Valley

Not to be mistaken for its more northerly namesake, this Carmel Valley is a beautiful and quickly growing community in San Diego County. Located in the northern part of the county, Carmel Valley is actually a subdivision of the city of San Diego that is home to 40,000 residents and rising. Carmel Valley is just north of Carmel Mountain, only two miles from the beaches of Del Mar and minutes from Interstate 5.

The economy of Carmel Valley is varied and alive. Many residents are employed in cutting-edge fields such as the biomedical, telecommunication and software industries.

Carmel Valley is home to a number of large businesses and shopping centers including Del Mar Highlands Town Center, Piazza Carmel and Carmel Country Plaza.

Students are served by two well-respected school districts: Del Mar Union, which operates elementary schools, and San Dieguito Union, which operates Carmel Valley Middle School and Torrey Pines High School. A number of universities and colleges are within a half-hour’s drive.

Residents of Carmel Valley find a virtual buffet of diversions all around them. Golf courses, green parks, a recreation center, festivals and other special events and of course beaches can all be found, not to mention the fun to be had in downtown San Diego.

Surrounding Carmel Valley are a number of hiking areas, golf courses and beaches such as beautiful Del Mar.

Beyond Carmel Valley’s borders lie the wonderful opportunities of San Diego. The San Diego Natural History Museum, San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, and the well-respected San Diego Museum of Art are just a short drive away. And what needs to be said about the world famous San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park?

When students have completed their educations at the highly regarded public schools in Carmel Valley, they find many choices for continuing their educations right outside their doors. Community colleges such as MiraCosta College and the San Diego County colleges, satellite schools for the University of Phoenix, and the California State campuses at San Marcos and San Diego are all nearby. Many well-respected University of California schools – including U.C. San Diego – and private schools including the University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University are also within driving distance.
