La Costa Town Square Begins

New Shopping Area to Carlsbad's La Costa Community

Bulldozers have started their work at the 88-acre La Costa Town Square project at the corner of Rancho Santa Fe Road and La Costa Avenue. This new center will consist of a mixture of upscale homes, offices, and retail stores.

Though the La Costa Town Center will bring in new traffic, it will have more trees and a much more open space being overall a better fit for the neighborhood. Site grading began this week and leases are currently being negotiated with four to five major tenants but no specific names will be unleashed until deals are set in stone…. and WalMart will not be one of them!  The initial phase of construction will include a grocery store, banks, restaurants, and 63 single family residences. Most of the other retail stores will not complete until the summer of 2014.

Rancho Santa Fe Road was widened and realigned several years ago in preparation for the traffic expected from the project and the developer has agreed to pay $9.5 million to help pay for fees related to street improvements and traffic signals.
